Updated: 3-1-2024
Requires Blender 4.1 or 4.0

It's the Mii Maker you know and love except now it's in Blender

I made this as user friendly as I could.
You don't need to be a Blender pro to use this, check the directions for some helpful shortcuts.
Just choose the parts you want to use, decide where you want them, and change their color.
It's already rigged and animated too.

How to use it video: https://youtu.be/wP9nOpjqYKo?si=nw91bDUNMuWeVBmG

Entertaining video about making it: https://youtu.be/8lrBrbdAn6w

If you DO know Blender, you'll be able to customize your Mii much further.
Things to try:

  • scale parts on only one axis to stretch them out
  • add new parts to the collections. The picker is proximity based, so you can just drop new parts in the collection without having to organize them (make sure to turn off shrink wrapping for the picker if you do this)
  • append Miis to other files to animate them, they are already rigged!

Directions

When you open the file, everything should already be set up for you to start creating a Mii.

  • If you can't see any textures, make sure you are in material preview or render view. These options are in the top right of the viewport.

  • Almost everything can be controlled from pose mode (as show in the top left of the viewport).

  • Use the category selector bone to scroll through all of the body parts, using the movement gizmo or by pressing G. Each category will have its own bone for picking a part. Use the circle bones on the face to change the placement of each part with G (move), R (rotate), and S (scale). See video above for example
  • Change the colors with the node group on the left. If you want to use the palette above, hover over a color in the node group and press E, you can then left click any color on the palette to select it. The palette has some natural skin tones on the bottom row, you can use these as a jumping off point to make color selecting easier. See video above for example
  • You can also copy and paste colors in the node group by hovering over them and pressing ctrl C and ctrl V. Reset all the colors by left clicking the node group and pressing backspace. See video above for example

Useful shortcuts (helpful for beginners)

G, R, S - move, rotate, scale
alt G, alt R, alt S - reset location, rotation, scale
A - select all
alt A - clear selection
numpad 0 or ` - view camera

Posing your Mii

To see the posing bones, go to the Object Data Properties tab on the right, and under Bone Collections turn on the one name “Pose Controls”. You can also turn off the “Part Picking” bone collection if you choose. If you’d like more posing options, use the dropdown arrow under “Pose Controls” and turn on “FK”.

Exporting your Mii to another file

I'm still trying to figure out a good way to export a mii to use in another file
